Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is cancer of the prostate gland. It is the most frequent cancer in Jamaica and is associated with the most cancer deaths. There were 1561 new cases of prostate cancer in Jamaica in 2020. Prostate cancer is preventable, Screening is available through digital rectal examination (DRE) by clinicians at health facilities, as well as the prostate specific antigen (a blood test that measures markers for disease of the prostate). Screening for Prostate Cancer in Jamaica should start at age 40 years.

The Jamaica Cancer Society is a partner of the Ministry of Health and Wellness. It is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides select cancer diagnostic and treatment services, raises public awareness around cancer, and provides counselling and support services for cancer patients and their families.
