Injuries

Injuries contribute to the burden of Non-Communicable disease. Review of data on injuries indicates that injuries can lead to Non-communicable disease because victims of injuries may develop risky behaviours such as tobacco use and excess use of alcohol, which are in turn risk factors for NCDs.

Injuries has been shown to add an estimated cost of JMD 12.6 billion per year to the health care system. Intentional and Unintentional injuries are also preventable and as such, surveillance of these reports from the health care system aids with making informed decisions on how to prevent these injuries.
